A good question....

This was a question posed by a fan through Fanbridge, by email list management site.  I answered it as quickly as I could, but there are so many songs that could have been on this list...

Q: Name five songs you wish you wrote...

On 11/15/2011 21:31pm YOU answered:

A:  Off the top of my head....
5.) Leave It Like It Is - David Wilcox
4.) Summer Wind, Cotton Dress - Richard Shindell
3.)Pacing The Cage - Bruce Cockburn
2.) All You Need Is Love - Lennon/McCartney
1.) Solo Le Pido a Dios - Leon Gieco

Here's a link for the spanish one that includes a pretty good translation.

Being out there...

When you're not gigging on a regular basis, it's tough to keep the set list feeling fresh, not to mention the rust that builds up on the old performance chops. I shook a little of that rust off at the Chit-Chat lounge's open mic last night and it felt goooood! The first time I got on that stage and played solo was in early 1999. I was terrified. The week prior, my very talented brother Jim, did a few songs with me, but this time I was alone. I struggled through Margaritaville, All for You, and the first song I ever wrote, (which makes me feel nauseous just thinking about it). I walked off that stage shaking like I'd just seen Death staring me in the face, and yet I had never felt more alive.

It's been a long time since that night. I've played here and there and music has put me in places I had never imagined being. I'm not a star, at least not one anyone knows about. But I burn brightly for my music because I'm supposed to do that.

So do yourself a favor and ask yourself, "What have I always wanted to be? Why am I not?" I don't know the answer to the first question, but I do the second: You are if you try.

Questions, questions....

My email management folks, Fanbridge, have added this "Ask a question" section.  So far one friend has discovered this and there are three canned questions from when they introduced this feature...  Here's the question from Michele and my answer.  Want to ask me a question?  Click Here.

On 08/06/2010 7:36pm michele asked:

Q: What's your favorite song?

On 08/06/2010 11:39pm YOU answered:

A: Great question, and a difficult one to answer. I have many songs that are favorites, so this could change often. There is one song that has always struck a chord with me (pun intended); "All You Need Is Love" by the Beatles. That song just says it like it is. It's not a "LOVE" song about romance, it's about living a loving life. Loving creation, loving people and living honestly and with dignity and integrity. I want to live that way. I want to be an example to my fellow humans. I fail sometimes, but I try.

Other favs:
Lovely Cruise - Jimmy Buffett (please play at my funeral)

Leave it Like it is - David Wilcox

If Love Is Not Enough - Peter Mulvey

and oh so many more... maybe I'll blog about my favorite songs... Waddaya think?
